Pink Floyd If lyrics

If I were a swan, I'd be gone.
If I were a train, I'd be late.
And if I were a good man, I'd talk with you more often than I do.
If I were to sleep, I could dream.
If I were afraid, I could hide.
If I go insane, please don't put your wires in my brain.
If I were the moon, I'd be cool.
If I were a rule, I would bend.
If I were a good man, I'd understand the spaces between friends.
If I were alone, I would cry.
And if I were with you, I'd be home and dry.
And if I go insane, will you still let me join in with the game?
If I were a swan, I'd be gone.
If I were a train, I'd be late again.
If I were a good man, I'd talk to you more often than I do.

Pink Floyd - Atom Heart Mother (1970) (Full Album)

Atom Heart Mother album cover inspiration

Storg Thorgerson was inspired by Andy Warhol's famous cow wallpaper and the fact that the group just wanted something plain on the album cover. Thorgerson said that he simply drove out into a rural area near Potters Bar and photographed the first cow he saw. The cow's owner identified the cow  as "Lulubelle III".

If lawyers are disbarred

If lawyers are disbarred and clergymen defrocked, doesn't it follow that electricians can be delighted, musicians denoted, cowboys deranged, models deposed, tree surgeons debarked and dry cleaners depressed?

A name is a terrible thing

A name is a terrible thing
For Wendy is not trendy
And Vince is no prince
Whilst with Lance never prance
And to Joe say no
Bruce is too obtuse
Whilst  Poppy plain soppy
And Ruth is proof, of a terrible spoof
For Trevor is never clever
Remembering Holly a folly
Yes, a name is a terrible thing

Jumbo Jet Spike Milligan

I saw a little elephant standing in my garden,
I said 'You don't belong in here', he said 'I beg you pardon?',
I said 'This place is England, what are you doing here?',
He said 'Ah, then I must be lost' and then 'Oh dear, oh dear'.

'I should be back in Africa, on Saranghetti's Plain',
'Pray, where is the nearest station where I can catch a train?'.

He caught the bus to Finchley and then to Mincing lane,
And over the Embankment, where he got lost, again.

The police they put him in a cell, but it was far too small,
So they tied him to a lampost and he slept against the wall.

But as the policemen lay sleeping by the twinkling light of dawn,
The lampost and the wall were there, but the elephant was gone!

So if you see an elephant, in a Jumbo Jet,
You can be sure that Africa's the place he's trying to get!

Language is a process of free creation

Language is a process of free creation; its laws and principles are fixed, but the manner in which the principles of generation are used is free and infinitely varied. Even the interpretation and use of words involves a process of free creation.

Pink Floyd - Sheep (lyrics)

Pink Floyd Sheep

"Sheep"

Harmlessly passing your time in the grassland away
Only dimly aware of a certain unease in the air
You better watch out
There may be dogs about
I've looked over Jordan and I have seen
Things are not what they seem.

What do you get for pretending the danger's not real
Meek and obedient you follow the leader
Down well trodden corridors into the valley of steel
What a surprise!
A look of terminal shock in your eyes
Now things are really what they seem
No, this is no bad dream.

The Lord is my shepherd, I shall not want
He makes me down to lie
Through pastures green he leadeth me the silent waters by
With bright knives he releaseth my soul
He maketh me to hang on hooks in high places
He converteth me to lamb cutlets
For lo,m he hath great power and great hunger
When cometh the day we lowly ones
Through quiet reflection and great dedication
Master the art of karate
Lo, we shall rise up
And then we'll make the bugger's eyes water.

Bleating and babbling we fell on his neck with a scream
Wave upon wave of demented avengers
March cheerfully out of obscurity into the dream.

Have you heard the news?
The dogs are dead!
You better stay home
And do as you're told
Get out of the road if you want to grow old.

Pink Floyd The Great Gig In The Sky-HD

The Great Gig in the Sky

"The Great Gig In The Sky"

"And I am not frightened of dying, any time will do, I don't mind.
Why should I be frightened of dying?
There's no reason for it, you've gotta go sometime."
"If you can hear this whispering you are dying."
"I never said I was frightened of dying."

Run Rabbit, Run

"Breathe"

Breathe, breathe in the air
Don't be afraid to care
Leave but don't leave me
Look around and choose your own ground

For long you live and high you fly
And smiles you'll give and tears you'll cry
And all you touch and all you see
Is all your life will ever be

Run, rabbit, run
Dig that hole, forget the sun,
And when at last the work is done
Don't sit down, it's time to dig another one

For long you live and high you fly
But only if you ride the tide
And balanced on the biggest wave
You race toward an early grave.

Home, home again.
I like to be here when I can.
When I come home cold and tired
It's good to warm my bones beside the fire.
Far away across the field
The tolling of the iron bell
Calls the faithful to their knees
To hear the softly spoken magic spells.

Tips when resuming cycling after many years.

Tips when resuming cycling after many years.
1. Keep mouth closed as insects are not tasty.
2. Do not believe when someone tells you it is not much further.
3. Ensure you wear clothing with low abrasive material.
4. Change the razor blade of a seat for something modern and comfortable.
5. Remember that cars always drove that close when overtaking.
6. Do not expect cheap Chinese pedals to last more than one hour.
7. Remember that the fun cross country path, bumping and jigging, is rather wearing after a few kilometers.
8. Take a map.
9. Charge your mobile phone.
10. Enjoy the bumps in the road that bounce you towards vehicular traffic as fun.
11. Do not become annoyed when you are shattered and your partner is still floating along effortlessly.
12. Accept the rip in your shorts as free extra ventilation

Monty Python's Life of Brian - I shall release Brian

Book versus Kindle

Looking back I see my shoulder...no further back, that's better. I remember sitting on a cosy bed, blanket pulled up with pillow manipulated into the right position. Reading and digesting the story, completely involved. And then, impercetibly by nodding and snoozing degrees, allowing the book to gently rest on my chin, chest or thereabouts. And sleep. Droolin' contentedly on the moistening pages.

Nowadays. Lay on the same bed. Cuddle the same blankets and snuggle your pillows. Then, as sleep beckons and the Kindle slowly moves forward...whack...into your teeth and chin and awake you are, with a start and swift check to see if everything is in the right place. Progress.

Monty Python - Bicycle Repair Man

Cycling

Great in theory. Cycling. The wvery ord, the feel of it creates images of smooth wheels running freely and effortlessly over smooth surfaces. Flying and wheeling into fitness and serenity. The reality. The bike is old and every jar and jolt is not only transferred to the body, but seemingly amplified. The seat was designed by a sadomasochist and the brakes are at best spongy, but fun is guaranteed. Off road, down tracks, tracks with ruts, ruts with pot holes, pot holes with ruts. Greenery reaching cross the way and sand to skid and spin in. Such fun.

Beware lazy guide books

Beware of recommendations in guide books. Especially be aware of recommendations from lazy guide books that reprint entries from years before. Such guide books recommend a restaurant, with horses in a paddock right opposite the restaurant and a beautiful garden filled with bloomimg flowers as well as fine food.

The reality is that the horses have long since disappeared, at least three to four years ago, and the garden has gone to the dogs. The buildings are in a state of wrack and ruin. The food, limited in choice, expensive in many instances, and poorly cooked and slovenly served is not worth the journey. The flies and wasps are in the ascendency if seeking entertainment.

Beware of lazy guide books, beware Gault and Millau Polska, and give long second thoughts about going to Stara Kuźnia

Post Office

There is a distinctly definite air of inevitability about going to the Post Office. I will queue and queue in a seemingly endlessly inane manner. The people ahead of me will be posting something which requires intensive stamping, scrutiny, signing, weighing, questions, counter-questions and options to be mulled over before returing to that which was initially requested.
Then my turn. And once again with certainty I know that after queuing for so long my needs will be met within a few seconds.Inevitable.
